Hope for the New Year

Hello, Friends!

I'm so happy you are here with me at the beginning of a brand new year. I want to share my first series of the year with you, a new flock of birds! Birds are a symbol of joy and hope, and they brighten our days with their joyful songs, colorful feathers and lively personalities.

Many years ago when I first started making birds, I was excited about having dynamically shaped surfaces to work within. Surface decoration is one of my favorite aspects of clay work. Tiles, platters, plates, and bowls are generally round or square.

Having always loved birds, I've listened to their songs, watched their movements, and admired their beauty throughout my life. I even had a beautiful parrot during my childhood. I would love to keep live birds but can't stand the thought of caging them.

I wondered, What is this connection that keeps me making birds for more than 30 years?

It's the hope, beauty, and gentleness they represent to me. And perhaps to you. All of these new birds are now available from my Etsy Shop.

Here's to 2021, and hope, the thing with feathers.
